Sons of God Metaphor
According to this metaphor, the blessings which God has for us are an inheritance,
reserved for the sons (and daughters) of God. To be a son of God you must
be born into the family. Christ came to show us our Father -- God. When
we recognize him as our father we become the sons of God (Galatians 4:4-7).
Christians call this being 'born again.' It is also referred to as adoption
or sometimes as being chosen. (Ephesians 1:4,5) This metaphor is similar
to the idea that God had chosen the Jews to be his children, his adopted
people. (Romans 9:4)
