Damned Souls Metaphor
According to this metaphor, each of us was given, at birth, a living, eternal
soul. We will die but our soul will live forever. When the world comes
to an end, God will judge all the souls. Those who have found favor with
him will go to heaven to live with God forever, the rest will be condemned
to eternal punishment (hell). There is no way we can make ourselves right
with God. But Christ came to redeem our souls. Christ paid the debt, made
the sacrifice, set us free. If we wish our souls to be saved, we must follow
Christ and make the sacrifices He made ("forget himself, carry his cross,
and follow me"-- Mark 8:34). When Christ comes back "he will reward each
one according to his deeds" (Matthew 16:27). If we do not follow Christ
our souls will be eternally separated from God. (Matthew 16:24-28) (1 Timothy
1:15,16)(1 Peter 1:8,9)(1 Corinthians 5:5)
