Debtor Metaphor
In this metaphor, God demands payment for sin. It is like the debt to society
owed by a criminal. We have done wrong and are going to have to pay for
it. We owe a great debt to God for our sins. There is no way we can pay
it. Christ came and paid our debt. It is as if he served our jail term.
By dying on the cross he paid the price. He took our punishment. We no
longer owe the debt. We are free. (Matthew 6:12)
