Sacrifice Metaphor
According to this metaphor, God is displeased with man because of sin.
It is the nature of God to demand payment for any and all sin. God demands
blood sacrifice to pay for sin. For many centuries humans appeased God
and obtained forgivness for their sins by making sacrifices of animals.
Then Christ came and sacrificed himself for our sins. Christ is the "once
for all" sacrifice. No additional sacrifice is necessary. When we realize
and accept what he has done for us, we become cleansed by his blood (Christians
some times call it 'washed in the blood'). We are set right with God by
the sacrifice of Christ. (Hebrews 7:26,27)(Hebrews 9:22,25-28)(Hebrews
10:5-18)(Hebrews 13:15)(1 John 1:7)
