Some Things Some Christians Do to Become Christians That Won't Make You
A Christian
-
"Praying to receive Jesus" will not make you a Christian. Nor will praying
what some Christians call "the sinners prayer." Becoming a Christian involves
a lot more than reciting a mantra or a few magic words.
-
Walking the aisle or responding to an invitation in an evangelistic church
service will not make you a Christian. Even walking the aisle in tears,
crying out to God for mercy and forgiveness won't guarantee you have become
a Christian (although for many it has been a good start). To become a Christian
you must start to become a new creature, be reborn into a new lifestyle,
one that changes the way you live, how you act, and how you treat your
fellowman. Becoming a Christian involves starting down a new path. It is
not an emotional release, or an act you perform in front of a crowd at
church.
-
Getting baptized, confirmed, or taking communion will not make you a Christian.
No human ritual, no matter how meaningful, ancient, traditional, or blessed
by the church can control God. Sometimes we get the idea that if we do
the ritual just right then God has to forgive us, or accept us, or save
us. God is not under the control of human rituals.
-
Joining a church does not make you a Christian. Some of the most egocentric,
selfish, power hungry, people on earth are church members.
