What Becoming a Christian is

To become a Christian means you have come to realize that the only things in life that matter are the things you do for others and then to live by that principle.

Becoming a Christian involves changes in our whole life. Our mind, our understanding, our emotions, our beliefs, our behavior, our wants, our needs, our desires.

Becoming a Christian takes time. In most people, dramatic life changes don't happen instantaneously. You can't become a Christian today and then not have to worry about it any more. Becoming a Christian begins a growth process that continues for the rest of your life. This is why you need to spend time with fellow Christians, sharing, studying, growing, on a regular basis for the rest of your life. Fellowship, study, and prayer are the fertilizer that will make this seedling grow.

Becoming a Christian involves learning to live according the the principles taught by Christ. It doesn't mean living the way Christ did -- eating what he ate, dressing the way he dressed, etc. It means analyzing his life and extracting principles that can be applied to living today. This is what Christians call "becoming more Christ-like."
