Christians are people who have had a fundamental life changing encounter with the love of Christ. That means that something has happened in their life that let them know what Christ was all about. That is, Christ came to earth to teach us that people can live by the principle of self giving love.
What Christians believe is that the only things that really matter in life are the things you do for others. (See "What Christians Believe" for more information.)
Anybody who has come to this realization is a Christian.
